There are several puzzle-filled areas to solve in Amnesia: Rebirth. After a few hours, you will come across a strong desert, the only way out of which is a fairly solid metal door. To cross it you will need to use the tank turret, but first you will need to craft a shell to shoot the door. In this Amnesia: Fort Rebirth Walkthrough we will give you all the information you will need to cross this zone alive, while making you discover the stocks of the Quartermaster and the Arsenal.

Walkthrough for Amnesia Rebirth Fort
To get out of the fort area in Amnesia: Rebirth, you will need to search for two areas, while being chased by a monster that feeds on fear. The first on the agenda is the fabrication of a shell to be loaded into the tank. This requires you to enter Quartermaster stocks. The front door is locked, so head to the back and follow the sound of the radio nearby. This will take you into the building.
How to pull the tank
To fire with the tank in the center of the fort area, you must first craft a shell / bullet. Head to the tank and climb inside to check the gun. You will need to head to the Quartermaster stocks first, as this is where you will collect the first component of ammo.
How to make a tank shell / bullet
Before we get into the QM area, let’s take a look at the shell components you’ll need to collect. I’ve listed all three components below, along with some info on where to get them each. I will then go into a bit more detail on obtaining each.
- Saltpeter – Found in Quartermaster’s Inventory.
- Charcoal Powder – Charcoal can be found in the Arsenal. You will need to grind it to use it in the shell.
- Sulfur – Sulfur is also found in the Arsenal. It will need to be refined by boiling before it can be used.
Search for saltpeter in the quartermaster’s stocks
Enter QM stocks using the method described above. Once inside, look for a ballista in the area (it’s a sort of mounted crossbow, the kind you would use to defend a fort). You can remove a winch from this ballista, which can be used at the elevator at the end of this hall. I have included an image of the ballista below.
How to ride the elevator
The next step on your agenda is to ride the elevator. To do this, use the winch that you collected earlier. Unfortunately the elevator floor has been damaged so you can’t stay inside while it climbs up the elevator chute. Fortunately, there is a plank of wood next to the elevator that can be placed over the space. Position the board so that you can stand while you turn the crank, this will allow you to stay inside and go up to the next floor.
Push the barrel
Now that you are on the second floor of this area, you need to go down to the locked room that you saw when you first entered. There is a cannon in the hallway as you exit the elevator. The cannon needs two wheels so that you can move it. The first wheel is right next to the cannon. Pick it up and place it. The second wheel is in an adjoining room. There are cannons here, take a wheel from one of them. Insert the last wheel and start pushing the barrel forward. This will break up the ground and open a hole for you to jump into. Make sure to collect the saltpetre from the QM store before jumping. You are now in the locked room that you saw when you entered this area. You will exit through the locked QM door.
Where to get the key to the Arsenal
You’ve collected one of the three shell components, so it’s time to go and collect the others. These items can be found in the Arsenal. You can find the arsenal near where you entered the fort area. The door is locked, so you will have to go up in the tank to find the key. It is hung next to the weapon. Once you have the key, head to the Arsenal. As you enter, there is a room containing several devices, including a crusher and a boiling pot. You can pick up charcoal in this room.
The charcoal you picked up cannot be used in the shell yet, it must be crushed. You can use the grinder to do this. Simply insert the charcoal and turn the grinder handle. Pick up the charcoal powder and continue.
How to get into the medicine cabinet cage
The last element you need is sulfur. This is in the medicine cabinet, which is locked inside a cage. There are two dead guards in there, one with a grenade in his lap. This grenade will explode if you open the cage door, so you will have to enter from the back. There are windows to the left of the cage, open the window on the far left, keeping the one closest to the cage closed. Jump on the outside ledge and jump over the window on the other side of the building. You can now enter the cage, collect the sulfur, and escape. Make sure to disarm the grenade on the way out, unhooking the wire connecting the door and the grenade.
Boil the sulfur
Once you have the sulfur, return to the room where you crushed the charcoal. You will see a small jar in this room, with a candle underneath. Place the sulfur in the pot and light the candle with a match. The sulfur will be reduced to powder. You now have the three components necessary to manufacture the hull.
Make the shell
Go back to the armory entrance and look for a shell-making machine. It is made up of two parts of an envelope which can be brought together using a lever. Place the three ingredients in the envelope then pull the lever. You now have a fully functional tank shell!
Loading the shell and firing the tank
With your freshly made shell in hand, return to the tank and then climb inside. You can now load the shell into the tank using the levers inside. We’ve tagged an image below, showing what each lever does. Load the shell, point the gun at the door and shoot. This will open the door, but collapse the ground under the tank …
How to escape from the tank
To finally leave the fort area, you will have to get out of the tank. Make sure the turret is unlocked and move it to the left. This will move the exit hatch. Keep moving it until there is space to exit the tank. Go out and escape. Now it’s time for the Cistern area.
