Bees EJACULATE to death during heatwaves as their sex parts explode from their bodies, scientists reveal

HEAT WAVES can cause fatal explosive ejaculation in male bees.

That’s according to new research, which has revealed the gruesome and graphic way male worker bees die when it’s too hot.

Researchers have found that intense heat causes convulsions in bees.

This convulsion then forces them to ejaculate.

Then their internal penis, which is about the size of their abdomen, explodes out of their body.

Extreme heat waves in Canada would have triggered this type of bee mortality.

This led researchers at the University of British Columbia to study ways to keep bees cool.

Researchers Explain: “When male bees, or drones, die of shock, for example because they are too hot, they convulse, forcing them to ejaculate, and an internal penis roughly equivalent to the size of the abdomen of the bee comes out of their body.

“We know that after six hours at 42 degrees Celsius, 50% of drones will die from heat stress.

“These are the same temperatures as those seen during the 2021 heat wave in British Columbia”

They tried methods like covering the hives with polystyrene and feeding the bees syrup to see if that stopped the brutal deaths.

Styrofoam sheet coverings have proven effective in keeping hives cool.

Dr. Alison McAfee, bee specialist at UBC mentioned“When drones die of shock, they spontaneously ejaculate.

“They have this elaborate endophallus that sticks out and is about the size of their own abdomen. It’s pretty extreme.”

She added: “We know that after six hours at 42 degrees, half of the drones will die of heat stress.

“The most sensitive start to perish at two or three hours. It’s a temperature they wouldn’t normally feel, but we were seeing drones becoming stressed to the point of death.”

McAfee believes bee drones should be used as indicators of environmental change.

The researchers have yet to have their study published in a peer-reviewed article.
