Gun parts and ammunition found in Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway’s car during marijuana citation

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway was cited for possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license in Strongsville early Sunday morning.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Cleveland Browns catcher Antonio Callaway was cited for possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license.

Now we know the rookie rookie also had gun parts in the car when he was arrested in Strongsville early Sunday morning.

Wednesday, TMZ released the dashcam video of Callaway’s traffic stop, in which the officer recognizes Callaway as a Browns catcher. Noting that the car smelled of marijuana, the officer says he was “really nervous” when he spotted a back strap from a Glock gun and several rounds of ammunition in the car.

Although Callaway admitted to owning a firearm, he said the firearm itself was not present in the vehicle. The 21-year-old also said his car had just been shipped to him from Florida and he was unaware that the marijuana found under his seat was in the vehicle while he was driving.

Callaway was cited for possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license, with a court date for the offenses scheduled for Thursday. It happens to be the opening day of the Browns’ preseason, in which they will face the New York Giants.

It looks like Callaway will be rescheduling his court date because he’s actually making the trip to New Jersey, according to multiple reports. On Tuesday, it appeared the Browns were unaware of the Callaway incident, as the rookie took reps with Cleveland’s first team during practice.

“Obviously I just found out,” head coach Hue Jackson said after practice. “We’ll have a very lively conversation about it. Let me find out all the facts – everything that happened there – and then go from there.

The Browns selected Callaway from Florida in the fourth round of this year’s draft with the No. 105 overall pick. Considered a first-round talent for some, Callaway slipped in the fourth round largely due to a litany of off-field issues throughout his college career and a failed drug test at NFL Scouting.
