Incessant rains wreak havoc in parts of Assam

Flood situation has deteriorated in Assam’s Tamulpur district as heavy rains continue to fall. Heavy rains have caused many parts of the state to become waterlogged over the past few days, including major cities like Guwahati.

The state has barely recovered from devastating floods caused by pre-monsoon rains in Assam last month, which worsened further on Tuesday.

Videos and photos have emerged on social media showing several houses submerged under water due to heavy flooding while landslides in several areas. IMD further predicted heavy rainfall until June 17.

According to reports, the roads of Kekerikushi, Dwarkushi, Boroland Chowk and others in Tamulpur have been submerged by the rising waters of the Barlia River.

Meanwhile, four laborers died in a landslide triggered by torrential downpours in the Boragaon area of the capital Guwahati early Tuesday and around 8,000 people in seven other districts of Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Dima-Hasao , Goalpara, Nalbari and South Salmara were affected, Indian Express reported.
