MAE HONG SON: A man was arrested in Mae Sariang district on Saturday as he went to collect gun parts he had ordered online, police said yesterday.
Natthawut Rapeeboonnon, 34, was arrested on his way to collect his parcels from a courier branch in the district, said Major General Pol Pichaya Boonkhajorn, commissioner of Mae Hong Son Provincial Police.
In the four packages addressed to him, authorities found gun parts and ammunition cartridges, which they seized as evidence, as well as two cell phones.
Three of the packages were sent by Chaiyong Alaiyon, an auto parts store in the San Pa Tong district of Chiang Mai.
The police took Mr. Natthawut to his home, also in Mae Sariang district, where they found weapons and cartridges.
He admitted to ordering the rifle parts through Line from a man he identified only as “Nu”, from whom he had ordered goods on several occasions.
Each time, he told police, he paid by wire transfer to an account belonging to Chawengdet Panya.
The firearms he ordered were later sold to a man identified as “Jorwa”, as well as ethnic groups in Myanmar who live opposite Ban Sam Lap in the Sop Moei district of Mae Hong Son. It is unclear how much in total he provided.
Mr. Natthawut was charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
