Defense Headquarters (DHQ), said yesterday that soldiers on anti-refueling operations in the Niger Delta, destroyed 109 illegal refining sites and arrested 24 oil thieves in the past two weeks.
The Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Bernard Onyeuko, who made it known, said that the soldiers had recovered more than 2.7 billion naira of stolen crude, comprising more than four million liters of crude oil, two million liters of AGO and 30,000 liters of DPK.
He said Operation DELTA SAFE soldiers also discovered and destroyed 34 wooden boats, 150 storage tanks, 119 ovens, 104 dugout pits, 27 pumping machines, a weapon, a speedboat, 13 vehicles and seven outboard motors.
Onyeuko, said the soldiers achieved the feat during Operation OCTOPUS GRIP carried out in creeks, towns and communities in the Niger Delta region of Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers State.
DMO spokesperson, during a press briefing on the update of military operations carried out between June 30 and July 14, said that 3,858 Boko Haram terrorists and their families surrendered to troops fighting counterinsurgency warfare.
Those surrendered include 505 men, 1,042 women and 2,311 children.
He also said that six high-caliber commanders from the terrorist field surrendered to the troops.
