SiriusXM will launch ‘Neil Young Radio’ after parting ways with Spotify

(The hill) – Neil Young gets his own channel on SiriusXM, a day after Spotify announced it was removing songwriter ‘Heart of Gold’ music after he protested vaccine misinformation on the streaming service.

The channel, dubbed “Neil Young Radio,” will operate for a week starting Thursday, SiriusXM announced. Neil Young Radio – which will feature “exclusive music and stories” from the musician – will also be available for a month on the SXM app.

The channel, SiriusXM announced, “will offer fans access to the entire musical world” of Young, including “rarities and exclusives” as well as stories from Young himself on his songs.

The move comes a day later Spotify said it was eliminating the music of the 76-year-old performer after Young issued an ultimatum that he could not provide a platform for him and Joe Rogan.

“I am doing this because Spotify is spreading false information about vaccines – potentially causing the death of those who believe the misinformation is being spread by them,” Young said in a letter earlier this week of comments made by the controversial host. from “The Joe Rogan” podcast. “We want all the music and audio content in the world to be available to Spotify users. With this comes a great responsibility to balance both the safety of listeners and the freedom of creators,” a Spotify spokesperson said in a statement Wednesday.

“We have detailed content policies in place and have removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him soon,” the statement read.

SiriusXM representatives did not immediately return The Hill’s request for comment on whether Neil Young Radio’s launch was related to the Spotify dust.

The youth-focused station has previously appeared on SiriusXM, which recently launched as a limited-air channel in December.
