New Delhi: A major terrorist incident has been averted in Jammu and Kashmir after a 51mm mortar shell was neutralized by a demining team in Surara village, Samba. The mortar shell was recovered by security forces earlier on Sunday from an open field in Surara.
The bomb disposal brigade was called in after the 51mm mortar shell was spotted by security forces. They reached the place and neutralized it, finishing the action in a controlled explosion.
Meanwhile, a massive search operation has been carried out by police and CRPF in several advanced villages along the international border in Samba district following reports of suspicious drone activity.
However, nothing objectionable was found during the operation which began around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and ended at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, PTI news agency quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police, Operations, Garu Ram as saying. Bhardwaj.
The police officer said information had been received that an illegal flying object, believed to be a Pakistani drone, hovered for more than five minutes over the villages of Sarthi Kalan, Dera and Madoon in the area of Regal border outpost, 10 km south of Samba at around 7:25 a.m. on Saturday.
He further said that a joint search operation was initiated immediately with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to ensure that there is no dropping of weapons and ammunition or substances. narcotics by the drone.
The search continued late into the night and resumed at first light, covering the entire radius of more than five kilometers from the place of the citation, the officer, who led the search operation in the villages whose Chakwal and Bandrali in the immediate vicinity of the Jammu-Pathankot national highway, said.
