The storm dumps more than 2 feet of snow in parts of the Tahoe region of California

NO LATER THAN April 22, 10:16 a.m. The California Highway Patrol lifted its chain check on Donner Pass at 10 a.m. Friday following a severe spring storm that caused major havoc on roads in the Tahoe area.

But while the lifting of chain checks means the roads are safer for travellers, perils remain this morning, as evidenced by two tractor trucks and trailers blocking the road near Emerald Bay.

April 22, 7:54 a.m.The recent storm dumped snow in the Sierra overnight, with totals generally reserved for the mid-winter months, not the last weeks of April. And that gave Tahoe-area ski resorts that chose to stay open a reason to celebrate.

The station says it’s “the heaviest snowfall we’ve seen since December.” At the same time, stormy weather caused power outages and other issues reported by the station in its Palisades Blog.

During the storm, the California Highway Patrol urged extreme caution on the roads. On Thursday, chain checks were put in place for vehicles on major freeways in the Sierra and an 80-mile (128-kilometer) stretch of Interstate 80 was closed to trucks due to slippery California line conditions -Nevada west of Reno to Applegate, CA.

But, from 6:30 a.m. on Friday, CHP Truckee tweeted that “the storm has subsided and the cleanup is in full effect.”
